Markdown Table Generator
Build a Markdown table in a grid, or paste CSV and get one back.
2 data rows, 3 columns. The first row is the header - GitHub tables always have one.
Build a Markdown table without counting pipes
Type into the grid and the Markdown appears below it. Add and remove rows and columns with the buttons; the small arrow above each column cycles its alignment through default, left, centre and right.
Importing a table you already have
The Paste CSV / table tab takes three things:
- CSV or TSV - copied straight out of Excel, Numbers or Google Sheets.
- Semicolon- or pipe-delimited text. The delimiter is detected for you.
- An existing Markdown table, including its alignment row, which loads back into the grid so you can edit it.
The two formatting options
- Align the source pads every cell so the pipes line up in a monospace editor. It makes no difference to how the table renders - it makes a difference to whoever reads the diff.
- Leading and trailing pipes wrap each row in
|. GitHub accepts both, but the wrapped form is what most style guides ask for.
Notes on GitHub-flavored tables
A GFM table always has a header row - the separator line underneath it is what makes the block a table at all. A literal | in a cell is escaped to \|, and a newline inside a cell becomes <br>, because a table row has to stay on one line.
